The New Orleans Saints and quarterback Drew Brees have agreed on a contract extension four days before the team hosts the Oakland Raiders.

Brees signed a five-year extension with an automatic void after two years, according to ESPN's Ed Werder. Brees will make $20 million this year and $24.25 million next season, totaling $44.25 million in guaranteed money.

Brees had made it clear that contract talks would end once the regular season started, the extension will keep him in New Orleans through the 2017 season.

Last season Brees threw for 4,680 yards and 32 touchdowns with 11 interceptions.

Kickoff for Sunday's season opener in the Superdome is set for 12 p.m.
