BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Seniors in the Baton Rouge area are getting a boost from the East Baton Rouge Council on Aging.
As thousands work to rebuild, volunteers handed out hot meals, as well as cleaning supplies to those in need. They had hundreds of gallons of jambalaya, cereal, and other types of food. Organizers say they planned to serve at least 3,000 affected seniors.
"We just pulled together, all our community leaders, our elected officials. We got some stuff from the food bank. We got stuff from everywhere. We got donations pouring in from all over the country. We decided to put it in use and give it to our seniors," said Tasha Clark-Amar with the EBR Council on Aging.
Volunteers plan to continue giving out supplies until they run out.
