LIVINGSTON PARISH, LA (WAFB) -

During the flood, the Amite River began eating away the land beneath some of the homes in the Cypress Point subdivision.

On Friday, September 2, Livingston Parish President Layton Ricks condemned ten of those homes because they are no longer safe to live in.

Ricks says those homeowners should receive letters next week so that they can make a claim with their insurance companies.

As for what to do about the river, which continues to chew up land in Cypress Point, Ricks says he will meet with leaders early next week with the hopes of coming up with a plan to sure up the banks of the river.
