BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Yes, the college football season is here! Talk of an SEC and SWAC championship and even a national championship have taken over Baton Rouge. Now it's time to make those dreams come true.
Week 1 is filled with marquee matchups. Let's pick the big ones.
(5) LSU vs. Wisconsin
The Tigers travel to play Wisconsin in historic Lambeau Stadium. Head coach Les Miles said any Tiger that does the 'Lambeau Leap' will need to thumb a ride back to Baton Rouge. In typical LSU fashion, the game will stay close in the first half before the Tigers wear down the Badgers and take control. There will be many opportunities for the leap, big question is will the Tigers give in to the temptation.
LSU 34, Wisconsin 16
Southern at UL-Monroe
The Jaguars start the season on the road, traveling to Monroe to face the Warhawks. It's the first meeting between the two teams. The Jags will contend for a SWAC title, but will face a tough Week 1 opponent.
UL-Monroe 34, Southern 20
UL-Lafayette vs Boise State
The Ragin' Cajuns host Boise State on Saturday. Former LSU quarterback Anthony Jennings will make his debut against the Broncos. UL-Lafayette keeps it close in the first half before Boise pulls away in the second half.
Boise State 38, ULL 20
(3) Oklahoma vs (15) Houston
If Houston beats Oklahoma they have a very good chance of running the table and crashing the college football playoff party. The Sooners are looking to bounce back after an embarrassing defeat to Clemson in last year's playoff. There will be plenty of points scored in this one, with Oklahoma scoring more.
Sooners 34, Cougars 27
(16) UCLA at Texas A&M
It will be a tale of two quarterbacks. The Bruins have Josh Rosen and the Aggies have former Oklahoma quarterback Trevor Knight. This is a tough to pick, but will be a fun one to watch.
UCLA: 28, Texas A&M 24
(18) Georgia vs. (22) North Carolina
Head coach Kirby Smart makes his debut and running back Nick Chubb returns for the Bulldogs. The game will played in the Georgia Dome and the crowd will be the difference.
UGA 28, UNC 24
(3) Alabama vs. (20) USC
Both teams start the season with new quarterbacks, but the difference is Alabama's defense. The Tide rolls to victory number 1.
Bama 34, USC 16
(1) Clemson at Auburn
Poor Auburn. Not the year you want to start off with Clemson. Head coach Gus Malzahn will feel the seat get a little warmer next week.
Clemson 38, AU 17
(11) Ole Miss vs. (4) Florida State
The Rebels and Seminoles meet in a Labor Day special and it could be a classic. Ole Miss starts Chad Kelly at QB and FSU starts redshirt freshman Deondre Francois. Ole Miss has had to deal with NCAA distractions all summer and the team finally gets to play a game.
