DENHAM SPRINGS, LA (WAFB) - Flooding has caused significant damage to the famed Antique Village in Denham Springs. Because of this, the Merchants Association has made the difficult decision to cancel its 2016 Fall festival.
"We are entrusted by our community to produce a safe, secure and entertaining festival." said Denham Springs Antique Market Association President Al Bye. "With the City of Denham Springs infrastructure being so greatly ravaged by the recent flood, our decision was to cancel the festival."
Although 60 percent of the stores on the south end of the Village managed to avoid flood damage, many others are struggling to recover.
"While the specific day of the festival has been cancelled," Bye continued, "we still invite the public to come out and enjoy the shops and ambience of the Denham Springs Antique Village."
Festival organizers are in the process of contacting vendors, sponsors and service providers at this time.
Officials say the Spring festival, which will be held in April 2017, will happen as planned.
