Could LSU and Alabama play twice this year?

Could LSU and Alabama play twice this year?

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - LSU fans are certain to have November 5 circled on their calendars. It is, after all, the Saturday the Tide rolls into Tiger Stadium for a huge SEC battle.

But could the two teams face off again in the post-season? That's what Fox Sports college football analyst Stewart Mandel believes will happen.

Mandel's college playoff final four includes (1) Florida State, (2) Alabama, (3) LSU and (4) TCU, with Alabama and LSU facing off in Glendale, AZ.

It's inevitable there will be two playoff teams from the same conference at some point, and the committee insists it won't manipulate seeds to avoid a regular-season repeat. I have Florida State, my lone projected undefeated team, getting the No. 1 seed and playing No. 4 seed TCU (11-1) in the Peach Bowl. Which leaves No. 2 seed Alabama (12-1) vs. No. 3 seed LSU (11-1) in the Fiesta.

Well, until then, we can enjoy the ride starting Saturday when LSU opens the season against Wisconsin.
