BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - There were joyful reunions Monday as pet owners dropped by to visit pets kept by prison trustees in the Dixon Correctional Pen Pals shelter.
Dixon Correctional has been caring for the pets of Baton Rouge River Center evacuees. The plan is to transport River Center residents to the Jackson facility daily starting at about 9 a.m.
"We've always been constant companions. She sleeps with me, she eats with me, we do everything together," said pet owner Sharon Lambert.
The owners not only got cuddle time with their pets, but could also walk outside and enjoy the green grass and the sunshine.
