BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Hunters will be happy to hear that when they shop for firearms and other hunting supplies during the 2016 Second Amendment Weekend Sales Tax Holiday, scheduled for September 2 - 4, they will receive a nice discount on state sales tax.

The holiday was created by the legislature back in 2009 to exempt eligible purchases of firearms, ammunition, and hunting supplies from all state and local sales taxes. As amended during the 2016 First Extraordinary Session of the Louisiana Legislature, the state sales tax exemption for 2016-2017 is now 2%, making eligible purchases subject to only 3% state sales tax instead of the full 5%. Eligible purchases are still fully exempt from all local sales tax.

The tax holiday applies to a wide range of hunting supplies, including firearms, ammunition, hunting apparel, and archery equipment.
