Deputies arrest suspect in birthday party shooting that left 1 dead, another critical

DENHAM SPRINGS, LA (WAFB) -

A suspect has been arrested after a shooting at a birthday party Sunday night left one man dead and another in the hospital fighting for his life, officials said.

The Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office identified the victim who was killed as Maurilo Galindo, 31, of Denham Springs. The name of the other victim was not released. The 33-year-old man is listed in critical condition.

Deputies said Raul Calderon, 39, of Denham Springs, faces a pair of charges in connection with the shooting that happened on Alysha Drive in Denham Springs around 9 p.m. They added there was a fight at the party and then shot were fired.

Sheriff Jason Ard said Galindo was shot in the back and later died at the hospital. He added the other victim was shot in the face.

According to Ard, Calderon fled the scene after the shooting, but was caught a short time later.

He is charged with one count of second-degree murder and one count of attempted manslaughter. His bond is set at $250,000.

Investigators said due to flooding at the Livingston Parish Detention Center, Calderon is being held at the Tangipahoa Parish Jail in Hammond.

The investigation is ongoing. Deputies said more charges could be filed against Calderon and other arrests are possible.
