YOUR TURN: 'Cajun Navy' Legislation

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

This week’s Your Turn segment goes to Laura Lavergne. Lavergne and many other people revolted at the idea proposed by a Louisiana lawmaker who wanted to pass legislation concerning the "Cajun Navy" that helped so many people during the flood. The state senator tried to explain he wanted to help the volunteers, but Lavergne and others still don’t like the idea. In her words:

It was already handled better than our government was capable of. They should be thankful, end of story. It’s bad enough that these boaters were stopped at every turn and had to waste valuable time and launch in places that were less safe just to get around those who tried to prevent them from saving lives. All of this happened without prompting and without regulation. Let's applaud them, not see how we can put an inefficient bureaucracy in charge.

That’s Laura Lavergne’s turn. Now it’s your turn. To comment on this segment or anything else, visit us on Facebook or send an email to yourturn@wafb.com.
