WEST BATON ROUGE PARISH, LA (WAFB) - One man is dead, and another under arrest after an early morning hit and run accident on US 190.
Shortly after 2am, Vontravis Stevens, 36, of Plauqemine, was walking across the Old Mississippi River Bridge in West Baton Rouge Parish when he was struck by a truck and left for dead.
About 30 minutes later, troopers received a call identifying the driver as Benjamin Todd, 21, of Pride. Troopers were able to track him and his truck down at home, where they gave him a chemical breath test. Officials said the test results were over the legal limit, and Todd was charged with Vehicular Homicide, Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated, and Hit and Run.
It's unknown if Stevens was impaired at the time of the crash, but a toxicology sample will be taken for analysis.
