Car crash in Pointe Coupee claims life of 16-year-old

POINTE COUPEE PARISH, LA (WAFB) - Around 3 p.m. on August 18, troopers from Louisiana State Police began investigating a two vehicle crash that occurred on LA 1 south of LA 3131 in Point Coupee Parish. The crash claimed the life of Nicholas Doucet, 16, of Morganza, LA.

The investigation revealed the crash occurred as Harlee Doucet, 17, also of Morganza, was traveling northbound on LA 1 in a 2003 Toyota Corolla. As he was traveling northbound, Amy Self, 46, was traveling southbound on LA 1 in a 2014 Ford Expedition. Doucet began to pass another northbound vehicle and collided head-on with Self's vehicle.

Nicholas Doucet, the brother of Harlee Doucet, was in the front passenger seat of the Toyota Corolla. He was properly restrained, but sustained fatal injuries in the crash. Harlee Doucet, along with two other juvenile passengers in his vehicle, sustained moderate injuries. Self and a juvenile passenger in her vehicle also sustained moderate injuries. Impairment is not suspected in this crash, but a toxicology sample will be taken from both drivers nonetheless.

The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.
