TANGIPAHOA PARISH, LA (WAFB) -

UPDATE MONDAY, AUG. 15: Tangipahoa Parish has been officially named a disaster declaration area as thousands have been rescued since the flooding started.

More than 2,500 people have been rescued along many family pets and livestock. Several drivers were also stranded on I-12 as the interstate was shutdown from Baton Rouge to Hammond because of high water. Water, food, and other supplies were delivered to the drivers until they could be rescued.

A man and woman also reportedly drowned in Tangipahoa Parish.

Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office confirmed Sunday afternoon that the body of a 59-year-old man was recovered Friday night, making him the fourth victim due to flooding. His body was discovered near Easley Road. He was reported missing after being swept away by the water. Officials have not released his identity.

Sunday evening, they additionally confirmed that they recovered the body of a woman as well. The woman has been identified as Alexandra Buddle, 20, of Hammond. It is believed her vehicle was swept away by floodwaters and was submerged on the south side of Hwy. 442 in Tickfaw.

Tangipahoa Parish officials are advising residents who utilize the French Settlement Water Company to boil their water prior to using it until further notice.
