Gov. Edwards honors 95-year-old veteran at military convention

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Gov. John Bel Edwards made a special presentation Wednesday night at a convention in Baton Rouge, honoring who he calls true heroes.

The governor gave the opening remarks at the Military Order of the World Wars Convention.

"We hold up singers and movie stars and athletes as heroes, and some of them are really good people and many times we should be proud of them, but I think we throw that label around to casually," Edwards said.
You all are heroes, and I want to thank you for your service to our nation, and thank you for everything you continue to do for our nation."

As part of that speech, Edwards presented 95-year-old veteran Oren Peters with a Governor's Citation.

The Military Order of the World Wars is a service group of veterans founded at the end of World War I in 1919.
