LSP seeks person of interest in crash that closed I-10 for 12 hours

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Authorities have released pictures of a person of interest in the overturned 18-wheeler crash that shut down I-10 for 12 hours Friday.

The person of interest is described as having long blond and brown hair. He has tattoos covering both arms and legs. The images were captured by surveillance cameras at the Walmart on Siegen Lane. Investigators believe he walked in wearing a white t-shirt with his hair down and walked out wearing a grey t-shirt with his hair pulled up.

Troopers said the driver of a stolen vehicle fled the scene after allegedly causing a crash that closed a portion of I-10 East in Baton Rouge. The two-vehicle crash happened shortly before 10 a.m. on I-10 East near Siegen Lane. Investigators believe a vehicle ran off the road, over-corrected and then hit the 18-wheeler. The tractor trailer flipped on its side, forcing the road closure and sending drivers into a frenzy.

The trucker was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, but investigators are actively searching for the other driver, who witnesses said was seen running towards Siegen Lane shortly after the crash.

"Witnesses reported that that suspect ran off near the Walmart, Khol's area off Siegen Lane," Tpr. Bryan Lee said. "Law enforcement checked the area and they were unable to locate that driver."

While the incident caused headaches for drivers, many are thankful the crash was not worse and hope whoever is responsible is caught.

According to LSP, the red Ford Fusion that caused the crash was reportedly stolen early Friday morning. The vehicle has been taken to the LSP Crime Lab to be processed.

Anyone with information on the man pictured should call Louisiana State Police Troop A at 225-754-8500.
