DONALDSONVILLE, LA (WAFB) - The Bulldogs of Ascension Catholic and second-year coach Drey Trosclair held their picture day before taking the field in full pads for the first time on Monday, August 8.
While 11 of 22 starters return, there are a lot of freshmen and sophomores stepping into several key roles.
They were just 3-7 last season, but are placing a lot of hope on an Assumption transfer and senior quarterback Javon Yarbrough in the backfield. Yarbrough got into five games as a junior, four of which were late in the season as they started to turn things around.
"In the backfield, Jamar Barber, he was ineligible last season because he's transferred in. He'll be eligible this year and we're looking for him to make big plays from him," Trosclair said.
"Even when the coaches weren't around we still put in work. We feel like 'Why not us?' We want to be known, be recognized," Yarbrough said.
However, there are question marks on defense.
"We're pretty young, because we lost three of our starting linebackers. The Mike, the Will and the Sam," said senior offensive tackle/defensive end David Giroir.
