PRAIRIEVILLE, LA (WAFB) - A driver was killed when the car he was driving went off a highway and hit a culvert early Monday morning, according to investigators.
Louisiana State Police identified the driver as Bart Todd, 47, of Prairieville.
Troopers reported the crash happened on LA 44 south of LA 933 near Prairieville shortly after midnight.
Tpr. Bryan Lee said the investigation up to this point shows Todd was headed southbound on LA 44 in a 1998 Toyota Camry when the car crossed the center line, went off the road and hit a culvert. He added it has not yet been determined what led to the car crossing the center line.
Officials said Todd was pronounced dead by the Ascension Parish Coroner's Office. According to reports, Todd was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
Lee stated it is not known if impairment was a factor in the wreck, but per protocol for deadly crashes on Louisiana highways, a sample of Todd's blood was sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
The investigation is ongoing.
