PORT ALLEN, LA (WAFB) - On Saturday, August 6, a group from Port Allen held a fundraiser and convoy ride from Port Allen to the Baton Rouge police headquarters to show their support for local law enforcement.
The trucks, carrying American flags, rode from Port Allen all the way through Baton Rouge after raising money by selling plate lunches. All off the money raised will go directly to the families of the officers hurt and killed in the ambush shooting in July.
"We appreciate what they do and everybody here definitely supports them. White, black, no color here matters. We're not looking for nothing. We just want to see families know that people out here actually care about them. We know that there's a rough road ahead. There's a long recovery process for them," said one of the participants.
The group wasn't alone in their efforts. The West Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office supplied a tent for the event and local stores chipped in with their own donations as well.
