Motorcyclist killed in Kentwood crash

KENTWOOD, LA (WAFB) - Louisiana State Police are investigating a crash that claimed the life of a motorcyclist in Kentwood Friday.

State Police say the crash happened just after 6:30 p.m. on LA 1055 near the intersection of LA 1054.

According to police, 42-year-old Robert Dykes was riding his 2010 Kawasaki motorcycle eastbound on LA 1055 when a pickup truck traveling westbound turned into the path of Dykes while attempting to turn into a driveway. Both vehicles collided, causing Dykes to be thrown from his motorcycle.

Dykes received severe injuries in the crash. He was transported to North Oaks Hospital where he later died from his injuries.

The driver of the truck, 76-year-old Henry Butler Jr., was not injured in the crash.

Butler voluntarily submitted a breath sample which showed no traces of alcohol.

The crash remains under investigation.
