BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

LSU has been rated the best value university in Louisiana, according to SmartAsset. The study also revealed that LSU graduates have the highest starting salaries among college graduates in Louisiana.

"In today's higher education environment, value is everything. At LSU, we're proud to give our students an exceptional education that provides an outstanding return on their investment," said F. King Alexander, president of LSU.

In their study, SmartAsset included tuition, student living costs, and the average scholarships and grants offered to students in order to calculate the true cost of attending school. To capture what students receive in return, the study analyzed student retention rate and average starting salary after graduation.

When determining college value, SmartAsset gave 25 percent weighting to starting salary, tuition, and living costs, and 12.5 percent weighting to scholarships and grants, and student retention rate in order to rank schools. An index was created, ranking schools from 0-100, with 100 being the highest.

LSU's college education value number was 58.36, placing it highest in Louisiana. When compared to other Southeastern Conference schools, LSU ranks as the fifth best in the conference, behind Texas A&M, Vanderbilt, Florida, and Georgia.

Graduates of LSU have an average starting salary of $48,900 per year, which is the highest among graduates in that state. When compared to SEC peers, LSU grads have the fourth highest starting salaries, behind Vanderbilt, Texas A&M, and Florida.
