Louisiana State Police said a driver was killed after slamming into the back of an 18-wheeler Tuesday night.

Troopers identified the driver as Marty Wyatt, 50, of Mandeville.

They said the crash happened on I-10 West near Whiskey Bay on the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge in Iberville Parish.

Tpr. Bryan Lee said the investigation as of now revealed Wyatt was driving a 2015 Toyota Tundra when he rear-ended a 1995 Peterbuilt tractor trailer.

He added investigators don’t know why the truck hit the big rig, but noted Wyatt was not properly buckled. Lee also said the driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured.

Authorities said it is unknown if impairment was a factor in the crash, but as with all deadly wrecks on Louisiana highways, blood samples from both drivers were sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

The investigation continues.
