PORT ALLEN, LA (WAFB) - A Texas man was killed after hitting a bridge in West Baton Rouge Parish on Tuesday, according to investigators.
Louisiana State Police identified the driver as Cotis Woods III, 25, of Dallas.
Troopers reported the wreck happened on LA 1 North under the Huey P. Long Bridge (Old Bridge on US 190) in Port Allen around 9 p.m.
Tpr. Bryan Lee said the investigation so far showed Woods was driving a 2012 Honda Civic that went off the highway in a curve and slammed into one of the bridge support beams.
He added Woods was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Lee noted investigators have not yet determined whether impairment was a factor in the wreck.
As with all deadly crashes on Louisiana highways, a sample of the driver's blood will be sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
The investigation is ongoing.
