BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A group pushing for the rejuvenation of Istrouma High School laid out some of their plans for revival Monday night.
East Baton Rouge Superintendent Warren Drake designed the Istrouma Advisory Committee to find out what it would take to make this happen.
"This has been a tremendous journey. It's been a lot of work involving a lot of different people at different levels. To one, get Istrouma returned to the school district from the State Department of Education and also the process of reopening it," said Dr. Jacqueline Mims, chair of the Istrouma Advisory Committee.
The group says construction could begin in a few weeks, with a grand opening set for August of 2017. The new Istrouma would have specialized components, likely focusing on career and technical educations.
