BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - On Saturday, July 30, officers were dispatched to Jefferson Hwy. in reference to a battery complaint.
Upon arrival, the victim advised the officers that her boyfriend of one year, Courtney Mantrell Johnson, 29, began to strike her repeatedly with a closed fist after they'd had an argument. She says she tried to leave the apartment after the argument began, but that Johnson grabbed her and threw her to the floor.
The victim says Johnson then grabbed her by the throat and threw her against a wall and choked her until she felt dizzy and felt like she was going to faint. Reports say that once Johnson stopped actively hitting her, he put her in her vehicle and drove her to the hospital, where he called someone to come pick him up.
Officials observed a golf ball sized knot on the victim's forehead, who was diagnosed with an orbital fracture to her right eye, which was swollen and bloodshot.
Later Saturday, a deputy came in contact with Johnson in reference to another incident and arrested Johnson, who stated he had not touched the victim and that she had run into a car, which was why he brought her to the hospital.
Johnson is charged with second degree battery.
