Deputies say man shot suspected drug dealer during alleged drug sale

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Investigators said an arrest has been made in connection with a shooting that happened in the parking lot of an apartment complex on July 15.

Kevin Beard Jr., 23, of Baton Rouge, is accused of shooting a suspected drug dealer during an alleged drug sale.

According to the probable cause report, the shooting happened in the parking lot of the Hidden Oaks Apartments on Siegen Lane before 9 p.m.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office reported deputies learned of the shooting because the victim showed up at Baton Rouge General on Bluebonnet Boulevard to receive treatment for a gunshot wound.

Deputies said the victim was shot while sitting in the back seat of a vehicle. They added the driver was able to flee the scene and get the victim to the hospital. No details about the victim's condition were released.

Beard is facing charges of attempted first-degree murder, attempted armed robbery and possession of marijuana. Officials also said a bench warrant had been issued for his arrest. His bond was set at $127,500.
