HOUMA, LA (WAFB) - Authorities said a teen boy was arrested after allegedly posting threats on social media to carry out a shooting at a school Friday.
The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office reported a concerned parent contacted deputies about a student posting threats on social media of a shooting at one of the junior high schools in the parish on the first day of school, which was Friday.
Sheriff Jerry Larpenter said the boy, who is a student at Houma Junior High, admitted to posting the comments but said he was only being funny and didn't mean to carry out a shooting. Officials did not state what school the posts mentioned.
Larpenter added the teen was booked into the Terrebonne Parish Juvenile Justice Center on a charge of terrorizing.
He noted parents should be aware of what their children are posting on social media and explaining how serious officials take these matters.
