BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Help continues to pour in for the victims of an ambush shooting that killed three law enforcement officers and wounded three others.
"The police protect us. If we can't help the families after the loss, shame on us," said Gary Labauve with the Red Stick Kiwanis Club.
The Red Stick Kiwanis Chapter said its focus is usually on helping kids, but members felt compelled by the events on July 17 and decided to give $1,000 to each of the families of the men who died that day.
They also gave $1,000 to the family of Deputy Nick Tullier, who continues to fight for his life in the hospital.
The Kiwanis Club said they were able to give the money thanks to fundraising events like their annual golf tournament and poinsettia sales.
