GONZALES, LA (WAFB) - There was an overwhelming show of support and appreciation Friday at the Gonzales Fire Department.
Firefighters hosted a blood drive to help replenish supplies for the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office.
All they did was ask, and the community really showed up. Before noon, more than 65 people had donated.
Capt. William Rouillier with the Prairieville Fire Department said when he arrived at 6:30 a.m. Friday, the line wrapped around the building.
"It was amazing. As soon as we walked up people started shaking our hands, congratulating us, telling us thank you for what we do. Of course, none of this could be possible without them," Rouillier said.
Anyone who did not make it to the Gonzales Fire Department blood drive Friday morning can still donate at St. Elizabeth Hospital and Our Lady of the Lake Hospital. Officials say to let them know the donation to be credited to the Ascension Sheriff or Fire Fund.
