BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Police believe a gas tank ruptured during a crash Friday, causing it to burst into flames and killing the driver.
The Baton Rouge Police Department identified the victim as Myrone Leblanc, 18, of Baton Rouge.
Officers reported the crash happened on I-110 South near Weller Avenue around 6 p.m.
Sgt. Don Coppola Jr. said the investigation showed Leblanc was driving a 2001 Honda Accord when she tried to change lanes.
He added before the Honda made it into the other lane, it was hit from behind by a 2012 Nissan Altima.
According to the report, investigators think the impact caused the Honda's gas tank to rupture and ignite.
No other injuries were reported and no charges have been filed.
The crash is still being investigated.
The interstate was shut down at Evangeline Street for about 3.5 hours due to the crash.
