HAMMOND, LA (WAFB) - A huge announcement was made about a major step in medical care for people in several Florida parishes.
The North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond was officially designated a level two trauma center.
That means Tangipahoa, Livingston, and St. Helena parishes now have easier access in case of an emergency.
"We now have trauma surgeons and OR teams and anesthesia staff in house 24/7, 365 days a year, so we know that there are people alive today that otherwise several years ago may not have made it," said Michele Sutton, the COO of North Oaks Health System.
The North Oaks Medical Center is only the fifth designated trauma center named in the state.
Our Lady of the Lake in Baton Rouge is also a level two trauma center.
