ASCENSION PARISH, LA (WAFB) - The the 2016 Ascension Hot Air Balloon Festival has been cleared for takeoff in September.
Ascension Parish President Kenny Matassa and the Ascension Festivals and Cultural Council announced "all systems are go for lift off" for this year's hot air balloon festival at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center.
Pending good weather, a mass display of more than 30 hot air balloons as well as three special shape balloons will be featured on Friday, September 23 and Saturday, September 24.
"Here we are, right around the corner from another highly anticipated Ascension Hot Air Balloon Festival," Matassa said. "And again the balloon committee has put together a great lineup of live music, entertainment, food and many attractions for the festival-goer of all ages."
In addition to the balloon glows, tethered balloon rides will be offered, if conditions allow.
Admission will be $5 a day for attendees over the age of 13, and free for children 12 and younger.
Ice chests, pets, bicycles, weapons, and personalized motor vehicles will not be allowed on the premises. Officials also warn that bags, backpacks, strollers and wagons are subject to security checks.
Volunteer Ascension said they are still looking for volunteers to help with the event. Interested volunteers can log onto the Volunteer Matrix to see which times and events are still available.
