PLAQUEMINE, LA (WAFB) - According to the Iberville Sheriff's Office, a woman was struck by one of the Sheriff's Office vehicles, driven by an on-duty deputy Saturday night.

The incident occurred outside of Mike's Club on Hwy. 1 in Plaquemine around 9:30 p.m. The woman sustained life-threatening injuries, but is now in stable condition.

According to Louisiana State Police spokesman Bryan Lee, TFC, it is suspected that the woman was impaired at the time of the crash. Troopers also say that because she was in the roadway, she is at fault for the crash and will be facing three charges (public intoxication, crossing a highway not at a crosswalk, and possession of drug paraphernalia) upon her release from the hospital.
