Lacombe man killed in two car crash

COVINGTON, LA (WAFB) - On Friday night, a man was killed in a two car accident on LA 1077 north of I-12 in Covington.

Shortly after 8:00 PM, troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L were dispatched to the crash. 45-year-old Lacombe resident Gregory J. Dickens was pronounced dead on scene.

Officials said Dickens was driving a 1996 Toyota Camry southbound on LA 1077, when it ran off the right side of the road.

Dickens then overcorrected to the left, causing his car to enter the northbound lane. Investigators said it appeared that he then steered back to the right and again exited the right side of the roadway.

As Dickens attempted to regain control of his car, he again overcorrected to the left and entered the northbound lanes a second time.  After crossing into northbound traffic, his car was struck on the front passenger side door by a 2014 Nissan Juke driven by 53-year-old William E. Revere, of Abita Spring.

Investigators say Dickens was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

He was pronounced dead on-scene by the St. Tammany Parish Coroner's Office. Impairment by Dickens is unknown; a blood sample has been obtained and will be sent to the crime lab for chemical analysis.

Investigators say Revere was restrained at the time of the crash. He was treated and released from the St. Tammany Parish Hospital with minor injuries.

Revere provided Troopers with a voluntary breath sample, which showed no trace amounts of alcohol.

The crash investigation is on-going.
