Troopers: Driver dies after car goes off road and hits culvert

PORT ALLEN, LA (WAFB) - A driver died after his car went off the road and hit a culvert early Thursday morning, according to authorities.

Louisiana State Police identified the driver as Aaron Walker, 27, of Glynn, which is located in Pointe Coupee Parish.

Troopers reported the crash happened on LA 620 (Section Road) west of LA 983 (Bueche Road) near Port Allen shortly before 5 a.m.

Tpr. Bryan Lee said the preliminary investigation showed Walker was headed west on LA 620 in a 2015 Hyundai Elantra when the car crossed the center line, went off the road and hit a culvert. It is not yet known what caused the car to cross the center line and veer off the road.

Investigators said Walker was not properly buckled up at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the West Baton Rouge Parish Coroner's Office.

According to Lee, impairment is not a suspected factor in the crash, but as with all deadly crashes on Louisiana highways, a sample of Walker's blood was sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

The investigation is ongoing.
