OUR TURN: Honoring Law Enforcement Officers

OUR TURN: Honoring Law Enforcement Officers

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - We want to honor all of the Baton Rouge Police officers and East Baton Rouge Sheriff's deputies who were injured or gave their lives in the service of protecting all of us.

We urge you to support their families with your prayers and by donating to the online accounts that have been set up to help them. They're all heroes. They all leave powerful legacies through their deeds which we will remember and through their families which we will support.

One of them, Montrell Jackson, left us with a powerful message which we all need to remember forever. In a Facebook post shortly after this set of tragedies began to unfold, Jackson wrote that he was "disappointed in some family, friends and officers for some reckless comments but hey what's in your heart is in your heart."

Later in the message he pleaded, "Please don't let hate infect your heart." We hate the fact that Montrell Jackson had to endure these feelings during the last two weeks of his life. As a community, we cannot afford to let his plea for humanity to go unheard.

That's "Our Turn." Now, it's your turn. To comment on this segment or anything else, visit us on Facebook or send an email to yourturn@wafb.com.
