BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Reverend Reginald Pitcher, head of the Louisiana chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, has been suspended indefinitely according to the president of the national SCLC.
President of the SCLC, Charles Steele Jr., says that Pitcher did not get permission from the national office to call for a "selective buying campaign".
During a press conference after the shooting death of Alton Sterling, Rev. Pitcher called for a boycott of the Mall of Louisiana, Cortana Mall and all local Wal-Marts.
Steele released a statement saying, "We suspend Rev. Pitcher because he has not communicated with the national office at all. When you're dealing with a national issue or national boycott, you cannot make that decision as a local office."
Pitcher says that he is disappointed in the president's decision and adds that he has refused a call from the organization to resign.
