DONALDSONVILLE, LA (WAFB) -

A St. Amant man was arrested after a fatal crash killed two people in Ascension Parish Thursday morning.

According to the Louisiana State Police, Brennan Simoneaux, 21, was driving north on LA 1 north of LA 405 in Donaldsonville around 6 a.m. when he attempted to pass another vehicle by crossing over the center lane. Simoneaux's 2000 Chevrolet Silverado then collided head on with a 2002 Infinity I-35 that was heading south on LA 1.

The driver, 28-year-old Jasmine Allen, of Baton Rouge, and her passenger, 32-year-old Ashley Stevenson, of Donaldsonville, were all in the Infinity at the time of the collision.

Stevenson was wearing a seat belt and was transported to an area hospital where she was later pronounced dead. Allen was also wearing a seat belt and only sustained minor injuries.

A passenger in Simoneaux's vehicle, 17-year-old Stormy Hunnicutt, of Prairieville, was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead on the scene by the Ascension Parish Coroner's Office.

Simoneaux sustained minor injuries and was treated before his arrest. He was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail on charges of two counts of negligent homicide, reckless operation, careless operation and no seat belt. His bond has been set at $100,000.
