State's oldest Governor's Mansion destroyed by fire

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The state's oldest Governor's Mansion was destroyed by fire early Thursday in Opelousas.

The mansion was home to Governor Thomas Moore from 1862 to 1863 during the Civil War when Opelousas was the capital of Louisiana and Union troops occupied Baton Rouge.

Renovations to restore the the mansion had been underway since last year.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
