BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards believes that raising the gas tax may be one of the ways to help the roads in Louisiana.
The governor's transportation tax force, which is made up of members of both political parties and business leaders, met Tuesday.
Edwards is hoping that the diversity of the group will help them to be able to do more to change the transportation situation in Louisiana than any other group has in the last 30 years.
He told the task force that they will have to really get creative in finding ways to pay for what needs to be done which could include a higher gas tax.
"I understand that we are going to have to explore revenue options to fund this investment," said Edwards. "Investment doesn't happen without the revenue to make it happen and the existing streams we have available to us are inadequate."
The task force has six months to get much of the work finished.
