BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - BREC broke ground on phase two for a park in north Baton Rouge. New features are being added at North Sherwood Forest Park now that phase one, which included the construction of a large air-conditioned walking track and recreational center, is done.
"It's a place where people in the north part of the parish can come to, and one of the things I hear often is that, you know, 'What is BREC doing for north Baton Rouge?' Well this is huge, very huge," said BREC Superintendent Carolyn McKnight.
BREC officials said with phase two, they will double the pond, install fishing piers, add a splash pad and water features along with a brand new playground.
East Baton Rouge Metro Councilwoman Donna Collins Lewis said it's one of the prettiest parks that BREC owns and now it will have so many new things for families to enjoy.
