BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Firefighters responded to a house fire in Baton Rouge early Tuesday morning.
The Baton Rouge Fire Department reported it happened on Wilmot Street near Elm Drive before 5 a.m.
Fire officials said a family of seven safely escaped the flames and smoke.
Curt Monte with BRFD said investigators determined the fire was caused by an overloaded electrical outlet in a bedroom. He added the flames were contained to that one room, but there is smoke damage throughout the home.
Red Cross was called out to assist the family.
