BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The red white and blue of the American spirit could be found in every corner, and on every person, of downtown Baton Rouge as the city celebrated Independence Day.
One of the most popular events was the USS Kidd's Fourth of July Spectacular. Despite the heat, thousands came out for fun and games, including a hot dog eating contest and live music.
However, the event was more than just a celebration. It's one of the biggest fundraisers for the Kidd each year.
"All the dollars we raise go towards the conservation of the ship, and also the operations of the museum, which is also a veteran's memorial," explained the Kidd's interim director, Mark Tullos.
