BAKER, LA (WAFB) - A large crowd gathered at the Baker Civic Center as the new city officials were sworn in Friday.

Before people representing his new constituency, Baker's new mayor, Darnell Waites, took the oath of office with his wife April by his side.

After the ceremony, the former mayor, Harold Rideau, said Baker is in good hands.

"I'm leaving it to a good man. Darnell Waites has the experience. He knows what he's doing, and he has the leadership skills. He's gonna be able to do a great job," Rideau said.

Waites said that cleaning the city and economic development are going to be his priorities. He added that he hopes to revise Baker ordinances to make cleaning up the city easier.

Baker's new police chief, Carl Dunn, was sworn in with his father standing by him, and three Baker council members were also sworn in.
