For this 4th of July weekend, keep in mind that your home could be at risk while you're away on vacation.

According to State Farm, July is the third highest month for home theft claims. December and January rank in at the top months due to the holiday season and the number of packages being delivered to people's homes.

In 2015, there were 1,420 theft claims in Louisiana and the average claim was valued at $2,789.

"Most vacations require some degree of planning. It's also smart to plan ways to protect your home from burglaries during your absence," says Roszell Gadson, State Farm spokesman.

View the slideshow above for some helpful tips to keep your home safe while you're on vacation this 4th of July holiday.
