Donaldsonville leaders plan for city's future

DONALDSONVILLE, LA (WAFB) - After several meetings with the public, leaders in Donaldsonville are laying out plans for the city's future by looking at the past.

"We all agree that tourism is the way you preserve a city that's over 200 years old, and we want to grow tourism here and showcase the historic nature of our city," said Lee Melancon with Donaldsonville's Downtown Development District.

One of the goals the city is focusing on include making nearby Bayou Lafourche more accessible and offering tours.

Leaders are also hoping to increasing options with the city's park and recreations in the hope of drawing more tournaments and people interested in the outdoors.

Another goal is to continue expanding the city's River Road African American Museum.
