LSU running back Leonard Fournette, offensive lineman Ethan Pocic and safety Jamal Adams have been named to the Sporting News All-American first-team.
Linebacker Kendall Beckwith and defensive back Tre'Davious White were named to the second-team.
The SEC placed a total of 18 players on the All-American teams.
SN's take on Fournette:
If not for a hiccup against Alabama, Fournette might have won the Heisman Trophy last season. He rushed for 1,953 yards and 22 TDs as a sophomore, and he’ll challenge the SEC single-season rushing record as a junior. Fournette’s blend of size, speed and power should lead to more highlight-reel plays, too.
SN's take on Pocic:
This is a risky pick given Pocic is coming off offseason hip surgery, but he should be ready to go for fall camp and can rotate between center and guard. He led LSU in knockdown blocks last season and will continue to be a lead blocker for Leonard Fournette. All Pocic has to do is prove he’s healthy first.
SN's take on Adams:
LSU has a tradition of developing first-round talent in the secondary under Les Miles, and Adams fits that description. He totaled 67 tackles and four interceptions last season. He’s that all-around talent this defense needs, and new defensive coordinator Dave Aranda will maximize those talents.
LSU opens the season in Green Bay, WI against the Wisconsin Badgers on Saturday, Sept. 3 at Lambeau Field.
