The LSU Police Department is urging Baton Rouge residents to exercise caution when breaking a bill for a stranger because it could end up costing you.

On Tuesday, officials warned of fake $100 bills which have been circulated around the Baton Rouge area.

The counterfeit notes are marked on both the front and back with "FOR MOTION PICTURE USE ONLY."

Several reports have been filed stating early to mid 20-year-old black males have been asking people in the LSU Student Union to break the counterfeit bills. Once they make an exchange, the suspects leave the victims with the fake bills and make off with real currency.

LSUPD, Baton Rouge Police Department, and the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office encourage people to remain aware.

Any person with knowledge of the scam is asked to call the LSU Police Department at 225-578-3231
