WASHINGTON PARISH, LA (WAFB) - Less than 48 hours after an air-conditioning unit was stolen from a Washington Parish church, police have made an arrest.
Police identified and arrested Ernest Joseph Lester, 33, on counts of theft, criminal damage, fugitive, and attempted simple burglary of a religious building.
The arrest occurred at a Franklinton gas station and occurred without incident.
"Our patrol officers took the initial report, recovered the stolen property and arrested the thief, all within a few hours," said Sheriff Randy Seal. "They did an excellent job and I thank them for all they do."
Lester has a history of theft and drug related offenses.
Sheriff Seal continued, "This fine congregation and pastor deserves better than to suffer at the hands of a thief."
