Louisiana state police say a one-year-old girl was killed in an early morning crash in Opelousas Sunday.

According to State Police, 24-year-old Bendel Williams was driving his 2000 Dodge Ram pickup truck northbound on LA Hwy. 182 when for unknown reasons his vehicle went off of the right side of the road and hit an embankment causing the vehicle to overturn.

Williams, who was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash suffered moderate injuries.

One-year-old Jamaika Johnson suffered severe injuries and was transported to Opelousas General where she later died.

State Troopers added that Johnson was not in a car seat at the time of the crash and was only wearing a seat belt.

State Police do not know of impairment played a role in the crash but a toxicology sample was taken from Williams and sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
