With the highly anticipated season 6 finale of Game of Thrones airing Sunday, many fans want to keep up with the show during the off season as well.
The world's largest travel and booking site, TripAdvisor, has done some digging and discovered the top 10 travel destinations that have seen the biggest jump in visitors during the current season of Game of Thrones.
The following locations have seen the biggest jumps (more than 120% on average):
Klis (pron: kuh-leese), Croatia – 579% increase
Campillo de Dueñas (pron: cahm-PEE-yo de dew-EN-ya), Spain – 291% increase
Vik (pron: Vick), Iceland – 78% increase
Dimmuborgir (pron: DIH-moo-boh-re-gear), Iceland – 64% increase
Vatnajökull (pron: VAT-nah-yo-kull) National Park, Iceland – 58% increase
Krka (pron: KER-kah) National Park, Croatia – 46% increase
Myvatn (pron: MEE-vah-tin), Iceland – 42% increase
Girona (pron: geh-ROH-nah), Spain – 19% increase
Trsteno (pron: ter-STEH-noh), Croatia – 18% increase
Mdina (pron: muh-DEE-nuh), Malta – 18% increase
To help travelers plan their Game of Thrones themed vacation, TripAdvisor also compiled average nightly lodging rates for the popular filming locations. They found the lowest rates are typically offered in September and travelers could save an average of 20% if booking then. Average nightly rates range in price from only $54 per night (Krka National Park, Croatia) to as much as $210 per night (Vatnajökull National Park, Iceland).
TripAdvisor also compiled data about bookable tours that true fans are bound to love. These tours include:
